The Rijksmuseum is housed in a unique historic monumental building from 1885 designed by architect P.J.H. Cuypers. The museum is dedicated to Dutch art and Dutch history. The collection is displayed in more than two hundred rooms and includes works by Dutch masters such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer and Frans Hals. In addition to paintings from the Middle Ages, the 18th century and the 19th century, the museum also exhibits sculpture, decorative arts and modern art. The most famous work in the collection is The Night Watch by Rembrandt van Rijn.
